CROSSFIT LEVEL 2 CERTIFIED TRAINER (AUG 2017)
Matt has been a part of CrossFit Chilliwack for 5 years. He started out as a member of the gym with very little fitness experience, but very quickly fell in love with Crossfit. It was a game changer for him. Still not sure what he wanted to do for a career, Crossfit became the passion he was looking for.
To some Crossfit is simply a work out program, but to Matt it’s a way of life.
His belief in Crossfit came following a serious injury leaving him requiring knee surgery. He continued to train as much as possible, using the Crossfit methodology of “everything is scalable” to prepare for the impending recovery he would have to endure. Post surgery he found that all the training he had done leading up really paid off. His recovery time was cut in half and was competing in Crossfit events 6 months. “Crossfit works, if you follow the programming and have the proper coaching. You will be fit for whatever life may throw your way.”

Jon started CrossFit in his garage in 2006 and gradually learned and became adept at the skills and methodology. He joined CrossFit Chilliwack as a coach when Joel and Sarah first opened it in 2009.
In April 2018, Jon and Paul joined forces to continue the legacy as owners of CrossFit Chilliwack.
Jon has taught for many years in a variety of topics; martial arts, tactics, fitness and cycling. He coaches athletes to hone their movement mechanics so they can naturally and incrementally increase their own skills and performance. Jon stresses alignment, posture and mobility across all modalities as a stepping stone to increasing performance, strength and ultimately, work capacity. Don’t be surprised if Jon encourages you to, “Stand up straight with your shoulders back.” Jon has competed as a masters athlete in running, triathlon, cycling and CrossFit. He also enjoys both road and mountain biking, as well as running and hiking our local mountains.

Marion comes from an athletic background including competing internationally for Canada in triathlons and cross country skiing; racing for Team Canada in Morocco’s Eco challenge (1997); and competing in track, cross country & trail running events. She has competed in multiple events at the World Police and Fire Games and has numerous podium finishes with age group records to her name. She can still be seen competing in various athletic events but has turned her attention to coaching. This has included University and club runners as well as CrossFit athletes. Her focus has been to help athletes achieve their personal bests through improving form with a proper mix of training volume and intensity.
Marion has a Bachelor in Physical Education and has held BCRPA and NCCP certifications (for several sports). In an effort to incorporate her athletic background and education with CrossFit’s practices, she completed her Level 1 CrossFit, CrossFit Endurance, and Mobility/WOD Movement & Mobility certifications. Most recently, Marion is dedicated to CrossFit training – when she tried it out in effort to fight the effects of aging. The intensity and challenging movements inspired Marion to continue to push herself athletically. She appreciates the solid functional movement foundation that CrossFit provides for athletes of all ages.

Kerri got her first taste of a Crossfit WOD in 2007 and was instantly hooked. She joined Crossfit Chilliwack in 2009 and took her Level 1 certification in the spring 2010 and began coaching while developing her private physiotherapy practice. The two worlds collided and after taking the Movement and Mobility Certification with Kelly Starrett, she implemented CrossFit functional movements into her practice. She offers support and treatment for our members with the use of traditional physiotherapy, orthopaedic manual therapy and manipulation, cupping, exercise corrections and IMS needling.
She has competed at various CrossFit competitions, is an avid trail runner, and participates in all backcountry activities in the mountains. She welcomed her son in 2017 and has been intrigued with the process of staying fit with Crossfit doing pregnancy and the recovery afterward. This has intrigued her to become a Pelvic Floor Physiotherapist and is certified in Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Training.
CROSSFIT LEVEL 1 CERTIFIED TRAINER
Leah, along with her husband Mike, discovered Crossfit in 2008. They began piecing together a garage gym and taught themselves the basic movements and principles of Crossfit.
After years of self-learning, Leah began opening her garage gym to other ladies who were interested in learning and training Crossfit. Through this process, she discovered how rewarding it was to help empower women and girls to become fitter and stronger. It was very gratifying to see women achieve feats such as their first pull-up. Leah discovered that although these were primarily physical achievements, she saw that it carried over into mental benefits as well. Helping people develop confidence, through physical gains, is a rewarding motivator for Leah.
Leah embodies fitness and health as a way of life. Getting up at 5am to run with friends in all types of weather would be considered a normal day. This active approach to life has enabled her to keep up with her active teenage boys.
After joining Crossfit Chilliwack in January 2019, she quickly realized how much she loved being a part of that community. Compared to the years of training in her garage gym, Leah’sability to learn and improve became significantly higher with the help of supportive coaching and being surrounded by members of the gym.
Although helping people is important to Leah, she also employs a mindset of continual self-improvement. She enjoys participating in both individual and team Crossfit competitions,in addition to, road and trail running events. She also enjoys hiking, skiing, and snowshoeing with family and friends.
